How Much Is My Car Worth in Scrap in Peterborough?
It's the first question everyone asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on your car. Two cars of the same age can be worth very different amounts in scrap. Here's what actually decides the price you're offered in Peterborough and across Cambridgeshire, and how to make sure you get the best figure for yours.
1. Weight is the starting point
Most of a scrap car's value is in its metal, so the biggest single factor is how much it weighs. A small hatchback is typically around a tonne, while a large estate, 4x4 or van can weigh twice that. That's why a big, older car can be worth more in scrap than a small, newer one.
We look up your car's weight from its registration, so you don't need to know it. You just enter your reg on our instant quote form.
2. Today's metal prices
Scrap yards pay a rate per tonne that follows the scrap metal market. When steel prices rise, scrap car prices tend to rise with them, and when they fall, offers fall too. We explain what moves those prices in how scrap metal prices affect your car's value.
3. Age and make
Some cars are worth more than their weight in metal. Newer vehicles, and makes with strong demand for used parts, can still have engines, gearboxes and panels that can be reused. When that's the case we can pay more per tonne than for an older car of the same weight.
4. What's missing or faulty
A complete car is worth more than one that's been stripped. These are the things that most often change a scrap price:
- Catalytic converter missing: the converter contains precious metals, so a missing one makes a noticeable difference.
- Battery missing.
- Alloy wheels removed or swapped for steel wheels.
- Engine or gearbox faulty or missing: this mainly affects newer cars, where those parts would otherwise be reused.
Our quote form asks about each of these up front, so the price you see already takes them into account.
5. Collection or drop-off
Revva collects free across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, Monday to Saturday. If you can drive the car to our yard at 2B Doddington Rd, Chatteris PE16 6UA, we add an extra £20 to your quote. We're open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm.
Why some online quotes drop on the day
Be wary of a price that looks far higher than everyone else's. Some brokers quote high to win the booking and then lower the offer at the kerbside. We'd rather give you a realistic figure up front, based on your car's actual weight and condition.
